Tie & Dye Exploration

A wax-resist dyeing technique involving stages of covering portions of the fabric with wax, followed by dyeing the fabric. I used this method on cotton fabric to create these pieces.

Materials: Cotton fabric, cotton dyes

Dimensions: 1 metre by 1 metre

Kanoko Shibori Tie & Dye

A Japanese dyeing technique that involves twisting twine around the fabric to bind it, to prevent dye from penetrating those areas.

Materials: Silk fabric, silk dyes

Dimensions: 1 metre by 1 metre

CYANOTYPE

A printing process that involves treating the paper with iron salts that react to UV light. Placing objects on the treated surface prevents UV light from "printing" the covered areas.

I experimented with treating the paper in different ways and using different objects to produce a variety of prints.
